Showing cats is a competitive game.  Cat breeders are constantly striving to deliver the best in breed.  Cat shows are also a very good way for you to learn about your cat’s pedigree, and are also a great place to get tips and info on how to get started in showing cats, from others that show cats.

There’s a lot of preparation that goes in to a show.  You will need to get ready months ahead of the show.  They will need grooming daily and be fed on high nutrient diet to ensure that they at their optimal health for the show.

When the big day comes make sure arrive at the show within plenty of time as you will you will have to register your cat.  After registration a vet will assess your cat to ensure that it is healthy enough to compete; they will also check all relevant vaccination papers.

When it comes to judging, remember not to talk to the judge.  If you talk to the judge whilst he is judging, you face the real possibility of getting your cat disqualified from the entire show. Your cat will be assessed on a number of criteria, likely to include physical condition, presentation / grooming, temperament and overall appearance.  The judge will also feel the cat to check physical condition and characteristics.

Remember every cat is a winner and it's the taking part that really counts.  Your cat doesn't have to be a pedigree cat to take part in a cat show.  Don't be put off if you don't get full marks on your first attempt.  There's a lot to learn in cat showing, so don't expect to know it all from the outset.
